Each of the qualifications has three component modules:
  1. COMMON CORE MODULE - Common to all disciplines and progressive through each level. Topics include:
  • Code of Ethics & Conduct
  • Protection of Children & Vulnerable Adults
  • Teaching Didactics
  • Class / Club Management
  • Safety & Responsibility
  • Planning the Training & Competition
  • Child Development
  • Sports Psychology
  • Pysical Preparation - Flexibility & Strength
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Managing People

      2.   SPORT SPECIFIC THEORY MODULE - Specific to the sport discipline and includes:

  • Age and Stage of Maturation
  • Biomechanics
  • Talent Identification & Development
  • British Gymnastics Reward Schemes
  • National Development Plan
  • Construction of Routines
  • Sport Specific Judging Rules

     3.   SPORT SPECIFIC PRACTICAL MODULE - Practical coaching of sport specific skills and including:

  • Progressive Development of Elements
  • Dance & Choreography
  • Safe Environment and Safe Supporting
  • Physical Preparation
  • Development of Routines for Competitions
  • Use of the Trampoline / Trampette as an aid to Teaching Gymnastic Elements

IMPORTANT NOTE:  All candidates attending a coaching or judging course must have a completed Criminal Record Bureau  (CRB) check.     Documents for this check can be obtained from British Gymnastics There are a number of Add on modules that coaches can attend. 

At Level 2 and higher, coaches may attend the next high level course, and be examined on the theory topics. If successful, he / she will be accredited as an 'Advanced Coach' at the specific level.
